IMD: Cyclonic storm 'Bulbul' lay centered at 8:30 am, today, over east-central Bay of Bengal, about 680 km south-southeast of Paradip, Odisha & 780 km south-southeast of Sagar islands, West Bengal. It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the storm. In addition, PM's Chief Secretary Dr PK Mishra met with the Chief Secretaries of Odisha and West Bengal and Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to review what preparations had been made to deal with natural disasters.

According to a statement issued by the central government, the meeting was reviewed a few hours before the 'Bulbul' hurricane. The Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department gave full information about the 'Bulbul' cyclone.

"The area where the bulbule will be affected will have winds of 70 to 80 km," he said. While in the center of a hurricane it can be 90 km per hour or even higher.

GK Das, an official of the Meteorological Department, said that the 'Bulbul' cyclone is 930 km south-southeast of Kolkata and is likely to become more intimidating by Thursday night. However, on Saturday it will become more powerful and reach Odisha and West Bengal. Which would make the situation in the sea more adverse. With this in mind, fishermen have been instructed to return to the coast by Thursday evening and not to sea until the next instruction is received.
